Leading the way with LED technology
This extension of Hamilton’s Ring Road was the first section to see the benefits LED light. The extension from River Road to Resolution Drive provides the latest link in the Hamilton Ring Road. A major arterial transport corridor network and a key component of the access Hamilton strategy.
CHALLENGES
The initial plans for this extension planned for HPS lamps and the pole placements were made accordingly. The new LED lighting solution had to be designed around the predetermined pole spacing and mounting heights.
SOLUTIONS
Cree XSP Series was chosen as the appropriate LED solution. This 101W LED street light was able to meet the lighting technical parameters and also utilise the predetermined pole spacing designed for the 175Watt HPS lanterns.
A relatively new technology at the time, LED was chosen for its energy saving capabilities, and clean white light. These light fittings also offered excellent spill light control. LED street lighting provides excellent visibility and helps drivers to stay safe at feel at ease on the road.
