The Cree XAR Post Top gets an A+ for increased student safety

The ongoing LED lighting upgrade of old post top light fittings has transformed both the visibility and security of the University of Otago campus.

CHALLENGES

There were multiple factors to consider when choosing lighting for this environment. The goal was to improve the security lighting throughout campus providing higher light levels for students, foot patrols and security camera viewing.

This project also came with a unique aesthetic challenge. The University of Otago campus features various building styles; from the iconic gothic revival buildings through to the most modern of teaching facilities. The post-top lighting fixtures chosen had to flow seamlessly from one era to the next, creating a uniform look that did not dominate in any space.

SOLUTIONS

Advanced Lighting Technologies NZ Ltd made the recommendation to install the Cree XAR Series with the ‘Spider Mount’ post top arrangement. Wide, symmetrical light distribution provides fantastic horizontal lighting coverage as well as improved vertical illuminance for the benefit of the security camera network throughout the campus.

The subtlety of the silver/grey product colour worked seamlessly with the galvanized finish of the poles and the spider mount aesthetic did not distract or clash with the variable style environments.
