OVERVIEW
Shotover Country
Safeguarding the night skies.
Shotover Country is set in Queenstown. A town renowned for its outstanding natural landscape, mountains, water and most importantly in this instance, the stunning night sky.
The HPS lanterns used in neighbouring subdivisions allow light to spill upwards. This leads to environmentally destructive light pollution and obscuration of the night sky. Upwards spill light from these lamps also represents unnecessary energy wastage.
CHALLENGES
The Queenstown Lakes area demands that all lighting installations adhere to the Southern Lights Strategy. This strategy ensures that lighting does not compromise the unique natural environment this region has to offer.
The street light design also had to provide the appropriate levels of light for comfortable night time travel.
SOLUTIONS
The Cree X6A SLM Series was chosen as a suitable fitting. The proprietary performance characteristics of the CREE LED street lighting products allowed the client to achieve the desired illuminance.
Eliminating upwards light and also providing excellent light uniformity along the roads. The aesthetic design of these light fittings are simple and unobtrusive.
