Residential Tennis Court: Sports

OVERVIEW

Residential Tennis Court

Lighting that’s on the ball … not on the neighbour’s lawn.

Innovative lighting technology eliminates the spill of light, avoiding impact on close neighbours. Light must be contained within the immediate court area at the right intensity and uniformity to allow for safe play during evening games of tennis. Lighting for residential tennis courts must comply with the local council conditions to gain consent.

CHALLENGES

Residential tennis courts often pose problems being located in a dense suburban housing areas. Often close to neighbouring boundaries, the containment of spill light is critical to get council consent.

The lighting of the courts has to meet standards AS 2560.2.1-2003 for optimum play conditions, while at the same time minimising both spill light and upwards light. The daytime aesthetics of the lighting installation also had to be considered.

SOLUTIONS

Full cut off RUUD AC square series floodlights with internal back light shields minimised spill light in order to adhere with council regulations. These light fitting also attained the required lighting levels and uniformity in accordance with the AS 2560.2.1-2003 standard for residential tennis play.

Classic square styling of the RUUD poles and floodlights gave an unobtrusive daytime aesthetic for both the owners and the neighbours.
